Life in Dam Platz
Dam Square is a bustling hub of a social activity, surrounded by posh restaurants, relaxed cafés and bars, boutiques and jewellery stores. This is a great place to take a break from seeing the sights. Entertaining street performers can frequently be found here in good weather. You can also feed the pigeons in this square, and it’s a great place to just sit and people watch. The world famous Madame Tussaud's wax museum is also here. Many events are held in Dam Platz, being the city’s most central point. The Holland Festival, Amsterdam Roots Festival and Queen's Day fair are a few of the locally celebrated special events. There are also markets around Christmastime and people gather here to ring in the new year on New Year's Eve. In the first week of September there is the Bloemencorso (Flower Parade) the Aalsmeer–Amsterdam flower pageant in the city centre, celebrating every kind of flower with the exception of the country’s legendary tulips, which are sadly out of season at this time.
