Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (in English, State Museum) is Amsterdam’s national museum and was founded in 1800. Originally located in The Hague , the museum is now located on the Museumplein after it moved in 1808. The museum houses arts, crafts, and historical exhibits. There is a large collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden Age including Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen, to name a few. There is also an extensive collection of Asian art. Until 2010, the building will be restored and during this time only a few pieces will be on display from the permanent collection in an exhbition called The Masterpieces.The museum is open every day from 9:00 to 18:00, and stays open later on Fridays until 20:30. It is closed only one day of the year on Januray 1st.
